Guesswork isn't a knowledge problem, it's a bandwidth problem
Experienced beekeepers aren't missing knowledge — they know exactly what a weight drop or a queenless colony looks like once they see it. What they're missing is bandwidth: a colony's state changes between visits, not during them, and no one can be at every hive every hour.
That's why even seasoned beekeepers get caught out by a swarm that left three days before a scheduled inspection, or a colony that starved during the one cold week nobody happened to check. The gap isn't expertise. It's timing.
The signals already exist
A hive is constantly producing the information needed to close that gap — weight, temperature, humidity, sound, how busy the entrance is. Affordable sensors to capture all of it (BLE hive scales, temperature strips, sound sensors) have existed for years and keep getting cheaper.
The bottleneck was never sensing the hive. It's turning a stream of numbers into a decision a beekeeper can act on without becoming a data analyst first. A dashboard full of charts doesn't close that gap — it just moves the interpretation problem onto a screen instead of a hive body.
Why we started with decisions, not sensors
That's the reasoning behind how Beentelligence is being built: the decision engine and its interfaces came first, designed so that real hardware can plug in later without a rework, rather than starting with sensors and figuring out what to do with the data afterward.
It also means we're explicit about where we are: early access, with a transparent roadmap, not a finished product overselling what's live today. A beekeeper's trust is earned by being straight about that — not by promising more certainty than the current stage actually has.
